π Planning to apply to top universities? Here’s what you need to know about AP & IB score requirements in 2025! Many competitive universities now look at AP and IB scores not only for credit but also as indicators of academic readiness.
π Advanced Placement (AP)
- Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and MIT: Typically recognize scores of 5 for placement or credit (though true graduation credit is rare).
- Stanford, Columbia, UPenn, and Duke: Accept scores of 4 or 5, depending on the subject.
- Caltech and some Ivy League schools use AP scores mainly for placement, not for reducing course requirements.
π International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Top universities like Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge usually expect a total score between 38–42 out of 45.
- Some UK schools (e.g. UCL or King’s College London) list minimums around 34–35, but admitted students often exceed those.
- For high-demand majors (like Engineering, Medicine, or Economics), universities often require 6 or 7 in Higher Level (HL) subjects.
π‘ Tip: Even when AP/IB credits don’t shorten your degree, strong exam scores still strengthen your application by proving you can handle advanced coursework!
